Office Moving Made Easy

Getting ready to move an entire office can be a difficult task. As the office manager, you are likely in charge of coordinating all efforts to pack the current space, prepare the new space, and find discount movers to help with the change. There are probably dozens of local movers in your area, but choosing the right one can be a time-consuming task. Sometimes the process of finding a mover can become so tedious that other essential moving tasks slip through the cracks. Take a few moments to make a checklist of the things you need to accomplish before your move; making sure your movers and packers and employees are included in the planning process.

Moving to Uptown Dallas

It won’t matter how many commercial movers you have in line to set up your office space if they don’t know where to put your belongings once they arrive at the new office. Make sure you visit your new uptown Dallas office space far before the official move date. Have a professional take measurements so that you can create an accurate floor plan. Determine whether or not you can take all of your existing furniture with you or if it is time to get rid of some of it.

Make a checklist of utilities that need to be turned on and off. Make sure your phones and electricity are turned on early. Your IT department and phone staff will need to get into the building in advance to ensure that all of your systems are working properly. You’ll also need to make special arrangements for the moving of any large pieces of office equipment, as your commercial movers may not be able to help with specialty items such as copy machines, computer servers, and even kitchen appliances.

Preparing Your Employees for Office Moving

Office moves can be a source of anxiety for employees, especially those lower on the corporate ladder who aren’t privileged enough to be a part of the planning process. Communicating with your employees at all times throughout the commercial realty moving process is essential. They’re going to want to know where they’re going so that they can start planning changes to their daily routines, and they’re going to want to know where they’ll be situated within the new building. This knowledge will give them a sense of calm, as they won’t feel like their futures are up in the air.

The floor plan we mentioned earlier will need to be very detailed, as you’re going to give copies to your employees before the actual move. Your furniture movers will need copies as well so that they can locate specific offices and cubicles when it comes time to drop off office supplies. Come up with a color coding system and label all of the furniture items and boxes so that you can differentiate between items that need to go to different floors or offices.

Let your employees participate in the process as movers and packers. Let them pack their own desks and department files. They’ll be comfortable in the knowledge that they took care of their personal belongings and they’ll be more excited about the move because they were able to participate and contribute. Make sure each employee has a colored code or number to place on all of his or her boxes so that they can be easily identified and are waiting at his desk after the move is complete.

The real estate commercial movers you choose to help you with your move are not going to leave you in the dark. Most local movers are great about giving companies guidance when it comes to the office moving process. They’ll give you checklists and guidance to ensure that your movers and packers are preparing your office for the most cost-effective move possible.
